Subtitles make every language yours
For many viewers abroad, English subtitles are the whole point: they open Tamil, Malayalam, Bengali and Marathi cinema to anyone. Nearly every Indian film on the big streaming services carries English subtitles. Start the film, tap the speech-bubble icon for Audio and Subtitles, and choose English.
Films worth watching in the original
Some films are best in the language they were made in: Sairat in Marathi, Court, mostly in Marathi, Monpura in Bengali, Premalu in Malayalam and Vikram Vedha in Tamil. Subtitles keep every performance exactly as it was.
Switching the audio
Big pan-India releases like RRR, K.G.F: Chapter 2 and Kalki 2898-AD usually carry several audio tracks, so you can choose Hindi, Tamil or Telugu from the same menu.
Size and style
Most apps let you enlarge subtitles and add a background in their settings; on a TV, a bigger size with a dark background reads best.
